“He did not work for the defense of the city but from the first days of the Russian invasion he looked after his own personal interests.” With these motivations Volodymyr Zelensky fired the head of the Ukrainian security service in the region of Kharkiv, Roman Dudin. “What are the reasons, the police will explain,” said the Ukrainian president in a video posted on his Telegram channel. The Ukrainian president then addressed, in particular, the Ukrainian cities, Kharkiv, where he was today, Kiev and Kryvyj Rih, his hometown, recalling that despite the difficulties “we will win”.
In the next few hours it should be the Ukrainian police to clarify the reasons. “What is very important now is that we are all united, with 100% cooperation. The army, the police, the mayor of Kharkiv, the regional state administration – they all really work for victory and they do it very effectively. Unfortunately, this cannot be said of the local SBU leader, ”Zelensky said.
The fired by Zelensky
In early April Zelensky he said he had fired two senior Ukrainian security officials, whom he called “traitors”, one in the Kharkiv region. “I don’t have time to deal with all the traitors, but little by little they will all be punished”, the Ukrainian leader had warned, adding that “those who break the oath of allegiance to the Ukrainian people will inevitably be deprived of their military ranks”. Another name of an alleged traitor had been mentioned a few days later by Dudin himself: he was a former employee of the Ukrainian presidential administration in the Kharkiv region (where the man had worked until 2019 and had access to the secrets of state). He had been accused by Dudin himself of working for the Russian special services.
