According to Chervinsky’s other lawyer, Viktor Vasylyuk, since the term of detention was valid until the end of the day on April 19, the court had until midnight to approve its extension.
The case of Roman Chervinskyi
Roman Chervinskyi – former acting head of state. the commander of one of the units of the Special Operations Forces. On April 21, 2023, the SBU said that they had declared suspicion against a military officer whose actions allegedly led to casualties and the destruction of equipment after the shelling of the Kanatove airfield in the Kirovohrad region. The serviceman is charged with violation of Part 5 of Art. 426-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – abuse of power or official authority by a military official.
According to the investigation, Chervinsky allegedly arbitrarily decided to conduct a special operation and seize an enemy plane. A Russian pilot was recruited for this. The head of the SBU, Vasyl Malyuk, claims that the operation was not approved by the state authorities, as it “concealed many risks.”
In November 2023, an American newspaper wrote that Chervinskyi may be involved in the undermining of the Nord Stream gas pipelines – sabotage, participation in which Ukraine officially rejects. The press did not provide evidence and referred to anonymous sources. Chervinsky denies these accusations. Chervinsky himself considers the criminal case against him to be politically motivated. In his opinion, the investigation may be related to the fact that he spoke in 2021 about the failure of the operation with the Wagnerites.
