Roman Cepeda highlights the work of civil society in Torreón

Torreón, Coahuila.- As part of the activities of the Advisory Councils of Grupo Salinas, the seventh edition of the “Citizen of the Year” social campaign was held in Torreón, where Mayor Román Alberto Cepeda González highlighted the importance of the work of the civil society organizations in this municipality.

The Municipal President said that a young society like that of Torreón has the commitment to grow by being fairer and more equitable, for this reason he thanked Ninfa Salinas for the recognition through Grupo Salinas.

“I congratulate each and every one of you, because I know that both members of the Council and the guests have something to do with the growth of Torreón,” he said.

Cepeda González recognized the work of civil society organizations that operate in Torreón, as he indicated that they collaborate in addressing such important areas as disability, among others.

“From my government and personally, they know that they will always have an ally and a friend,” concluded Cepeda González.

Ninfa Salinas, President of the Advisory Councils of Grupo Salinas and Fundación Azteca, said that the idea of ​​recognizing outstanding citizens arose from the Advisory Council, with the aim of talking about the good things that happen not only in La Laguna, but also in Coahuila and throughout Mexico.

“We do not have to flood ourselves with negative news, what builds the country are the proposals, the people who get to work and inspire others,” he said.

For his part, Fernando de las Fuentes Hernández, Secretary of the State Government, representing Governor Miguel Ángel Riquelme Solís, expressed the recognition of the state president towards the award-winning citizens at the event.

“On behalf of Governor Miguel Riquelme, I congratulate Ninfa Salinas who does a great job through the Advisory Councils, which represent a common effort so that Mexico continues moving in the right direction.”

At the event, three outstanding women from Coahuila were recognized as citizens of the year 2023: Rocío García, Cecilia Marroquín and Cecilia Cardiel, who inspire social change in the community.

Cecilia Marroquín, founder of the “Happy House” Association, whose job is to support low-income families, offering, among other things, lodging, food and medicine, currently supports 200 children from La Laguna who attend together with their parents to take treatments and therapies to Torreón, as well as 380 foreign children and their families from Chihuahua, Durango and Zacatecas.

Cecilia Cardiel, founder of the “Ver Contigo” Association, with which she seeks to support children with visual disabilities. She has cared for close to 600 children with visual disabilities, through a personalized program of early care and physical skills.

Rocío García, currently directs the HECAT Educational Brotherhood, an institution focused on the care of children belonging to families with limited economic resources to provide them with quality education.
