Even though AS Roma 5-1 win over CSKA Sofia in the first match of the group stage Conference League, Jose Mourinho dissatisfied. Mourinho assesses Roma is not good enough.
AS Roma won 5-1 when they hosted CSKA Sofia at the Olimpico, Friday (17/9/2021) early morning WIB. The hosts left behind first after being burglarized by Graham Carey in the 10th minute.
Rome replied later Lorenzo Pellegrini and Stephan El Shaarawy for the remainder of the first half. Pellegrini, Gianluca Mancini and Tammy Abraham added three goals for Roma in the second half.
In terms of the game, Pellegrini et al were more dominant with 61% possession of the ball and recorded 16 shots, with seven on target. While Sofia had 11 attempts of which four were on goal.
However, the squad made Jose Mourinho it had trouble facing Sofia’s pressing in the first round. The match was practically easier after Sofia lost Yanic Wildschut in the 80th minute due to a second yellow card.
“We didn’t play well. At some moments we played well, a strong team started to form. We’ve talked about this and have to be more of a team when we enter difficult moments,” said Jose Mourinho to Sky Sport Italy quoted Football Italia.
“However, I’m not at all satisfied with the team’s performance. We didn’t play with quality, just two days ago we trained this, but the full-backs didn’t push forward much, the team lacked intensity, we lost a lot of defensive duels.”
“I can’t say we played badly, but we also didn’t play well and obviously not enough to guarantee a 5-1 win. Yes, we have more quality than CSKA Sofia, but we didn’t put in enough effort,” added the Portuguese coach.
