AS Roma is strengthening its midfield with the arrival of Portuguese international Sergio Oliveira, 29, on loan until the end of the season with the option to buy from FC Porto, the Italian club announced on Wednesday. With his compatriot, who participated in the Euro with Portugal, José Mourinho hopes to bring some character to the struggling Giallorossi in the league, with already nine defeats in 21 matches. A late-blooming talent, Sergio Oliveira only made his mark last year with the Dragons, the club where he was trained but which has very often loaned him out, in Portugal and abroad (PAOK Salonika, Mechelen, FC Nantes ). Last season, he notably shone in the knockout stages of the Champions League against Juventus. Despite a defeat in Turin, his double allowed the Portuguese to qualify against the club of Cristiano Ronaldo (3-2 ap). According to the Italian press, Roma will pay FC Porto 1 million euros for the paid loan until the end of the season and will be able to buy the player at the end of the season for some 13 million euros.
