Rome (ITA) failed to comply with Financial Fair Play rules and needs to restrict spending during 2024
The 2024 season is approaching and, therefore, Flamengo is keeping an eye on the market for opportunities to reinforce the squad next year. Roma (ITA), the team to which Matías Viña belongs, has a punishment that could help the red-and-black board in hiring the left-back who is the target of Clube da Gávea.
The Union of European Football Federations (UEFA) punished Roma for failing to comply with Financial Fair Play rules in 2022. Therefore, the Italian club signed an agreement and needs to restrict spending for two seasons. In fact, Matías Viña’s team followed the order to the letter and was the one that invested the least in signings for the 2023/2024 Series A dispute.
SALE OF PLAYERS HELP ROMA WITH SEASON REVENUE
The Italian team achieved revenue of 30 million euros in the last window by selling athletes. However, you still need to remain financially careful. In this way, Roma’s general director of football, Tiago Pinto, explained how the Italian club deals with punishment. Understand:
— There are two fundamental parameters that we must respect for FFP (Financial Fair Play). One of them is that in a period of two years (counting from 2022) we can only spend 70% of our revenue. And then there is a tool called Transfer Balance, which monitors the inclusion of players on our UEFA list – explained Tiago.
NEGOTIATION WITH FLAMENGO
There is already an agreement between Flamengo and Matías Viña, in which the club and the player agreed on salary values and contract length. However, with Roma, Rubro-Negro has not yet managed to reach a common denominator. Despite this, Mais Querido believes in a positive outcome in the negotiation.
In addition to Matías Viña, Flamengo has advanced negotiations for Léo Ortiz, from Red Bull Bragantino. Therefore, Mais Querido’s expectation is to have at least three reinforcements in the re-presentation on January 8th. This is because, the Rubro-Negro announced the hiring of Nicolás de la Cruz this Saturday (24).
