On the fifth day of group G of the Europa League, Roma draws 1-1 at Servette, qualifies for the direct elimination phase but first place which qualifies for the round of 16 disappears after Slavia Prague’s victory against Sheriff: the Giallorossi will have to beat the Moldovans on the last day and hope that the Czechs lose to the Swiss. In Geneva it is Lukaku to unlock the match with a nice left foot (21′), but the hosts react and find the equalizer at the start of the second half (50′) with Bedia. Dybala wastes a couple of clear opportunities and the result never changes.

THE MATCH

Roma were overtaken by Servette and now the hope of qualifying as before and avoiding the many feared play-offs hangs in the balance. The Giallorossi, in fact, are not masters of their own destiny and now they need a miracle: they have to beat Sheriff at the Olimpico and hope that Slavia lose at home with Servette now out of the game. The Czechs, in fact, are ahead by two points and have a better goal difference (+4) with the same head-to-head matches. Slavia’s draw also offers a little hope, provided they beat the Moldovans with a 5-goal difference. The good news of the evening is Lukaku’s return to scoring, while Dybala communicated well but wasted a couple of clear scoring opportunities.

Weiler lines up his Servette with the 4-4-2, with Kutesa and Bedia in attack. Mourinho, who wants to reach first place to avoid the play-offs, does not give up on the Dybala-Lukaku duo and makes Mancini, Spinazzola, Karsdorp and Pellegrini take a breather. Roma are lined up with a sort of 4-2-3-1, with Celik and Ndicka as full-backs. Between the posts the Svilar Cup goalkeeper. The Special One had warned him that Servette would start strong and would be dangerous in the first 15 minutes and so it was: Kutesa, Tsunemoto, Cognat and Bolla (Svilar saved himself in two halves) fortunately only caused shivers. Then with the first (and only in the first half) shot on target, Roma broke the deadlock in the match in the 21st minute: personal action by Llorente, who at the limit unloaded on Lukaku, with a left foot that knocked out Frick. The Belgian, who immediately found the feeling with the goal in the Europa League which was interrupted against Slavia Praha, immediately after on the right footed the ball for the second goal but fired high the perfect assist from El Shaarawy. The goal immediately takes away the certainties and security of the Swiss and the Giallorossi almost find another goal in the 35th minute: the Pharaoh puts an inviting ball into the small area, but first Dybala and then Lukaku miss the impact from a few steps away. Servette wakes up at the end of the half, when Bolla clearly passes Bove and finishes without power with Svilar blocking to the ground, but above all in the 45th minute when the Portuguese goalkeeper with his calling hand removes Kutesa’s great right-footed shot from under the intersection .

The second half opens with an immediate equalizer for Servette: Cristante leaps empty on Stevanovic’s cross, the ball reaches Bedia who wins the tackle with the Roma player and puts Svilar under his legs from a few steps away (50′). The Portuguese goalkeeper then makes a good exit on the Ivorian attacker. The Swiss push fades as the minutes pass and Dybala has two great chances that a champion like him cannot afford to miss: in the 63rd minute after an exchange with Lukaku, a rebound favors him but he kicks high with his left foot and devours the advantage. In the 72nd minute, just before giving way to Belotti, Lukaku sends it towards goal like against Udinese, Joya opens the left foot but Frick blocks it to the ground. Roma pushes but Frick is no longer in serious danger.

REPORT CARDS
Bedia 6.5
– In the first half you see little, it grows in the second half where he wins the duel with Cristante. He scored the equalizer, then kept the Giallorossi rearguard anxious.

Torture 6,5 – The 25-year-old Angolan by birth was the most dangerous of his team in the first half and only a miracle from Svilar in the 45th minute denied him the memorable goal.

Svilar 6,5 – Miraculous on Kutesa at the end of the first half, with a feline leap to clear the cobwebs from the intersection. In the second half well done on Bedia. Otherwise not very busy but always safe.

Lukaku 6.5 – The Belgian returns to scoring after 3 games of abstinence and confirms the great feeling with the Europa League, interrupted after 14 days against Slavia Prague. He has two other great chances that he fails to materialize.

Dybala 5.5 – The understanding with Lukaku is becoming increasingly refined, but in the second half he misses two goals that someone like him should never miss.

Cristante 5 – To give Mancini a breather, Mou puts him back in defense but the results are not in line with many other performances. He missed out on Bedia’s equalizer and suffered from the physicality of the 27-year-old Ivorian striker.

Aouar 5 – Subdued match by the Algerian midfielder who never manages to make an impact, although he is relieved by particular defensive tasks. No noteworthy play. He leaves after 55 minutes.
