Rolls-Royce shows his first electric car while testing in the snow

The first mass-produced electric car from Rolls-Royce is around the corner, the carmaker has completed testing at the Swedish Arjeplog, where the BMW Group has its facilities.

The newly developed Rolls-Royce always begins its career in the winter. “It starts with testing the insulation of noise, vibration and shock to the quality of the rubber door seal, the compound compound, the fasteners, and even the properties of the binders,” said a statement from Goodwood.

The efficiency of heating, ventilation, air conditioning or refrigeration systems is also tested. Last but not least, the drive, steering and suspension settings are tuned. Which seems to be quite a different discipline in the case of the electric car.

Specter arrives on a new electric platform. The carmaker claims that the interconnected system provides 141,200 interactions between the sender and the recipient and contains more than 1,000 functions with more than 25,000 subtasks. By comparison, the Phantom flagship limousine handles 51,000 sender-receiver interactions and has 456 functions with 647 subtasks.

“The improvement of the fully electric drive system, which is the basis of the Specter model, creates a completely new definition of technical development. The move from internal combustion engines allows us to significantly increase the computing power of individual components and create a Decentralized Intelligence system, ”says Development Director Mihiar Ayoubi, referring to the era of engineers using multi-purpose, multi-channel and highly interconnected electronic and electric powertrain architectures. -Royce 3.0.

“Our job is to teach each component and the whole system to think, behave and communicate so that the result is a typical Rolls-Royce,” adds Ayoubi.

Rolls-Royce’s technical details are still secret, as is other information. Under the camouflage you can see a large two-door coupe with a typical proportion. Due to the extended range, the novelty should be carefully aerodynamically optimized. Even thanks to the little things, like a slightly more “crouched” statue on the bow, the coefficient of air resistance (cx) reaches only 0.26.

The prototypes will still run around two million test kilometers, during the fourth quarter of 2023 the first cars will reach customers.
