Lately we have been talking more and more about electric airplane projects, which would eliminate CO2 emissions from aviation as well, even Rolls-Royce developing such a small electric plane of testing these technologies, and a few days ago more information was published about a first engine which works similar to a jet engine, but is electrically propelled. But aviation is a field very sensitive to the weight of aircraft, and the existing batteries currently allow flights of relatively short distances, precisely because of this, the major plan of the international organization IATA to reach zero emissions in 2050 relies only on 13% of purely electric and hybrid propulsion systems. A much higher stake, of 65%, is placed on engines that will run on sustainable aviation fuel, called SAF. And now Rolls-Royce has successfully tested its most powerful engine, called UltraFan and prepared for this future in aviation, where engines will have to operate with SAF.
