Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts dies

Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts has passed away. That’s what the agent of the rock group said. Charlie Watts was 80 years old. He died in a hospital in London, surrounded by his family, his agent said.

Last week, Watts had already announced that he would not be joining the Rolling Stones’ upcoming tour. He had just undergone a medical procedure and his doctors advised him to rest.

In late 1962, Watts joined the Rolling Stones, where he starred until his death, along with Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. In 2019 he was ranked 12th in the list of the 100 best drummers in pop music history by Rolling Stone magazine.

Well-known artists have expressed their condolences on social media. Vocalist Bryan Adams remembers Watts as “one of the greatest rock drummers ever”. “We’re going to miss you man,” Beatles drummer Ringo Starr wrote. “One of the most stylish men ever and such good company,” tweeted singer Elton John.
