Roland Wöhrle Sets New Kandel Record: Flying a Kite from Kandel to Regensburg

Roland Wöhrle, member of the Southern Black Forest Kite Club and the German national team, flew his kite from Kandel to Regensburg. With a flight distance of 300 kilometers in just over eight hours, he set a new Kandel record. Wöhrle has been flying kites for 40 years; his longest flight to date was in Namibia in 2016 over 350 kilometers, in a triangle, with a flight time of 8 hours and 45 minutes. Shortly before 11 o’clock it started on the Kandel. The thermal conditions were mostly good this time, although sometimes so moderate that Wöhrle didn’t believe in success. Under rather difficult conditions, he flew together with his club colleague Thomas Sterzing, who had to land near Stuttgart. For Wöhrle, things went on with a bang: Ulm marked half the distance, the area behind was new flying territory. His teammates picked him up 15 minutes after he landed.
