Pop singer Roland Kaiser regularly performs in Dresden with a particularly large series of concerts – but the 70-year-old does not see his popularity as limited to East Germany. He emphasized this in response to a corresponding question at the Leipzig Book Fair on Friday. This is one country, we are one people and people love my music – in Saxony as well as in North Rhine-Westphalia, said the West Berlin-born artist. Among the many fans, for example at the Kaisermania concert series in Dresden, are by no means only Dresdeners, but also people from other parts of the republic. Kaiser is known for the songs Santa Maria, Joana and I think it’s going on again.
Kaiser’s recently published book Live – The Roadbook is about his experiences on stage. A lot of fans always ask me: How is it on and off the stage? What does the hall look like before the concert? What are you eating? said Kaiser. In addition to his family, his employees also have their say in the book. It’s interesting that my musicians see me so differently. Each of my employees has found a different formulation. The singer did not participate in the selection of the images shown in the book, as he said: I don’t like to see myself – at least not in the focus.
