Trevisan beaten in three sets
—
Ends the adventure of Martina Trevisan who had to defend the brilliant quarter-final achieved last year. This time the Tuscan player had to surrender in the second round to the Romanian Sorana Cirstea who ended up prevailing for 6-4 3-6 6-4 in 2 hours and 37 minutes. Martina is in trouble already in her first serving time. She saves a break point and then holds the serve by showing her fist to charge up and show her rival that she is ready for the tough battle. Cirstea’s balls are much heavier and more penetrating than those of Tuscany, but Trevisan is skilled in looking for the best trajectories and thus holds the 2-all game with ease. The fifth game opens an error by the Romanian who then shoots two slashes along the line, but Trevisan does not give up and reaches the break ball which transforms thanks to the error of Cirstea. The advantage of the Italian does not last long, but with determination she holds a crucial game for the equal 4. At 4-5, however, the blue wastes five balls to keep the game and on the second set point for Cirstea he sinks by putting a backhand into the net. Also in the second set the blue is the first to make the break (2-1 and service) but the recovery of the Romanian is imminent; Sorana snatches the bar to zero from Trevisan and returns to 2 all. Martina plays an impeccable game, stretches again and this time confirms the break for the 4-2. At 5-2 the Tuscany misses a set point, loses the serve, but then again snatches the serve from their rival, closing the set 6-3. In the third the blue is more perky, flies 2-0 and then 3-1; on 3 all he wins a very hard-fought game of 14 points for 4-3. But on 4 equal the blue is broken again, then misses two balls of the counter break, cancels the first match point with a backhand shot with his eyes closed. The Romanian gets a second with a lucky ribbon and this time she commits the first double fault of the match. The third match point for the Romanian, however, is the good one. A first in the center that the blue does not control. (Mon.Mar.)
