Roland D’Ieteren died at the age of 78 from coronavirus

The Belgian automotive world is in mourning this Thursday. We have indeed learned of the death at the age of 78 of Roland D’Ieteren. He died of the coronavirus.

The D’ieteren family, as importer and distributor of the VW and Audi brands, is one of the biggest players in the Belgian automotive market.

Roland D’Ieteren (from the sixth generation D’Ieteren) worked for D’Ieteren from 1972 until his retirement in June 2016. He then handed over control of the company to his only son, Nicolas, who is still chairman of the board of directors of the (partly) listed company today.

In 2009, Roland D’Ieteren was knighted, receiving the title of baron. And in 2019, he occupied the 26th place on the list of the most fortunate Belgians thanks to a capital valued at 1.1 billion euros.
