This Thursday, August 22, the Italian Supreme Court of Cassation was to rule on the request for house arrest in Rome of the Malian singer Rokia Traoré, a request made by her lawyer. However, in the morning, the Court decided to refer this request to the Court of Appeal in Rome.
Rokia Traoré, a Malian singer and composer, has been imprisoned in Italy for two months under a European arrest warrant issued by Belgium. Her incarceration follows a dispute with her ex-partner over custody of their daughter.
According to RFI, the decision of the Italian courts on Rokia Traoré’s request for release under judicial supervision is therefore not yet known. Her house arrest in Rome allows for the improvement of her detention conditions.
Furthermore, this decision marks a first step, while waiting to know whether she will be extradited to Belgium.

As a reminder, the Franco-Malian artist was convicted in October 2023 by a Belgian court for failure to present a minor child to his father, which led to the issuance of a European arrest warrant and her arrest on June 21 in Rome.
