Hardik Pandya was recently made the captain of Mumbai Indians replacing Rohit Sharma who was the best captain of Mumbai Indians in the history of IPL. With this, Rohit’s place in the Twenty20 World Cup team was in doubt.

But the BCCI has not yet announced that Rohit has been removed from the T20 captaincy. The change of captaincy in Mumbai Indians is the sole decision of that franchise. It should not affect Team India in any way, said unnamed BCCI sources. There are also indications that there is a verbal agreement between the selectors and coach Rahul Dravid to make Rohit the T20 captain.

In the IPL, Mumbai Indians won the title in the first season of 2013 under the captaincy of Rohit. Later in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020 seasons under the leadership of Rohit, Mumbai Indians won the IPL title. Rohit holds the record of being the first captain to win five titles in the IPL. But Rohit is yet to lead Team India to the ODI, T20 World Cup and the World Test Championship.
