The latest news comes from Rohana Abdullah, an Indonesian girl who was cared for by a Chinese woman in Malaysia. He is now officially a Malaysian citizen, Mother.
Rohana could not hold back tears of joy when she received a letter granting Malaysian citizenship status from Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin last Friday (29/4/22).
Rohana grew up for 22 years in Malaysia. He was left by his mother who is an Indonesian woman to be cared for by a middle-aged woman named Chee Hoi Lan.
Even though she is not a biological mother, Chee Hoi Lan really loves Rohana sincerely. He also raised Rohana with Islamic teachings, in accordance with what his daughter had adopted since birth.
Chee Hoi Lan accompanied Rohana when she officially became a Malaysian citizen. After receiving the letter, Rohana returned to his seat and gave his adoptive mother a tight hug.
“On stage, she (Rohana) cried when she said that she had been waiting a long time for a decision on the determination of her citizenship,” said Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin, quoted from The Star, Sunday (1/5/22).
“He thanked the government and I informed him that we grant citizenship to eligible individuals.”
Rohana was one of 34 people aged 5 to 24 who received Malaysian citizenship at a ceremony held at the Home Ministry, Bunda.
Article 15A of the Federal Constitution gives the Federal Government special powers to register a person under the age of 21 as a Malaysian citizen.
The issue of Rohana’s citizenship has indeed been a concern of the Malaysian government for some time. Rohana was reportedly abandoned when he was two months old by his biological mother.
Rohana was then treated by Chee Hoi Lan who was a teacher at a kindergarten where she worked as a cleaner.
Seeing Rohana who is still two months old, Chee Hoi Lan could not bear to see the little baby abandoned by the mother. Chee Hoi Lan decided to care for and raise Rohana as an adopted child with great affection.
While being cared for by Chee Hoi Lan, Rohana got a lot of good treatment from the woman. Read on the next page, Mother.
