The director of “Wonder Woman” will work on the new “Star Wars” film “Rogue Squadron”. A project with Taika Waititi is also planned.

Patty Jenkins, 49, will direct a new “Star Wars” film called “Rogue Squadron”. Jenkins and Disney have now announced that. This makes the “Wonder Woman” director the first woman to sit on the director’s chair in a main film from the “Star Wars” series. The film is said to focus on an infamous rebel squadron from the popular sci-fi universe.
A video game series entitled “Rogue Squadron” was released between 1998 and 2003. The new film could also be the start of a fresh film series. According to the industry journal “Variety” the release is planned for Christmas 2023. Disney boss Bob Iger (69) wrote on Twitterthat he felt honored as an “admirer of the work” of Jenkins that she would work on “Rogue Squadron”.
Another film and many new series
Furthermore was confirmed once againthat Oscar winner Taika Waititi (45, “Jojo Rabbit”) is working on a new “Star Wars” project. As early as May it became known that Waititi would direct a fresh “Star Wars” film. So far there are no more precise details, but it could possibly be the second part of a new series.
Previously, according to “Variety”, it was also made public that Disney + would like to release ten new series around the “Star Wars” universe in the coming years – including “Ahsoka” with Rosario Dawson (41), “Andor” with Diego Luna (40) and “Lando” developed by filmmaker Justin Simien (37).
