LIVE Techno – The presence of an extra planet in our Solar System caused by Mars and Jupiter can disrupt the orbit and will make the end of life on Earth.
This is the conclusion of experimental simulations conducted by planetary astrophysicist Stephen Kane of the University of California, Riverside. While it’s unlikely there will be new planetary members, the findings have implications for scientists’ hunt for life in other galaxies.
According to Kane, the goal of the experiment is to investigate two important gaps in the configuration of our Solar System compared to others, quoted from Sciencealert, Saturday, March 11, 2023.
The first is the gap between the sizes of the terrestrial planets —the largest being Earth—and the gas giants, the smallest of which is Neptune.
Neptune however, is four times wider and 17 times more massive than Earth. In our solar system, nothing lies in between.
“In other star systems, there are lots of planets with mass in that gap. We call it a super-Earth,” he said.
Meanwhile the second gap is in the location. With respect to the Sun, neither planet lies between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter.
