In “Star Wars: Andor” the rebel Cassian (Diego Luna) will do dirty agent missions. The Disney + series is currently in production and will play before the events of “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” which airs on ProSieben Sunday night.
On Sunday evening (May 2) from 8:15 pm, ProSieben will show the spin-off “Rogue One”, which leads directly into the events of “Star Wars 4: A New Hope”, the original “Star Wars” film from 1977. So the sequel to “Rogue One” existed about 40 years before it was released in theaters, but Disney and Lucasfilm have found another way to expand the story about the rebellion against the empire:
It jumps back three years in the storyline when the “Rogue One” rebel Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) was sent on missions against the Empire for the resistance. These adventures are told in the twelve-episode series “Star Wars: Andor”, which is expected to appear on Disney + in 2022 (alongside, among others, the third season “The Mandalorian” and “Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi”).
A first preview of “Andor” leads you to the elaborate sets of the new “Star Wars” production:
Cassian: A broken hero
For some viewers, Cassian Andor in “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” seemed a little boring because it was somehow meaningless, while Diego Luna gives the character a tragic depth with just a few glances: You can feel that this man has done things who chase him. Right at the beginning of the film, viewers even witness Cassian shoot an informant before the man can fall into the hands of the Empire.

Elsewhere, Cassian says that he entered the resistance struggle at the age of six. That was before there was an empire. The Empire was then still the Republic and the Jedi fought side by side with clone soldiers against separatists on their behalf – Cassian was one of those break-offs. In the series “Star Wars: Andor” the republic has been history for 16 years, but it is possible that Cassian’s warlike past is told in flashbacks (that’s how we get to know the clone war past of young Din Djarin in “The Mandalorian”).

The gray-drawn main character and the rough look should connect “Rogue One” with the series “Star Wars: Andor”, which was described as a thriller when the project was announced. In the meantime, a new series boss came on board: Tony Gilroy – who is largely responsible for the final form of “Rogue One” after he made massive changes to the film, actually directed by Gareth Edwards, at Lucasfilm’s behest, which required unusually long re-shoots .
The cast of “Star Wars: Andor” includes Diego Luna, Stellan Skarsgard (“Nymph () mania”) and Genevieve O’Reilly as rebel leader Mon Mothma.
