Primoz Roglic opened the Mission title hat-trick at the 76th Tour of Spain with an overwhelming victory in the time trial.
The Slovenian top favorite has won all the time trials in the Vuelta since 2019 and was unbeatable in 8:32 minutes on the 7.1 km long route with start and finish in Burgos. The Olympic champion drove six seconds out of second-placed Spaniard Aranburu, eight on his third-placed compatriot Jan Tratnik.
Bora captain Felix Großschartner made a strong first impression in 18th place, 20 seconds behind and fastest of the Austrian trio. Tobias Bayer was 61st, Patrick Gamper was 91st.
There could be a sprint finish on the second stage on Sunday. The 166.7 kilometers from Caleruega to Burgos do not present any difficulties.
