Two shots and two goals – Rögle didn’t need much to extinguish Timrå’s hopes of continued play this season.
In his last game as coach for the club, Ante Karlsson saw his Timrå fall 2–3.
– I am terribly disappointed, says Timrå’s Jonathan Dahlén.
The match clock had just passed seven minutes of the first period when Timrå had to play the first box play of the afternoon. 45 seconds later it went off. Rodrigo Abols then served Albin Sundsvik who sent a shot from the slot straight into the right cross behind Jacob Johansson in the goal. Second shot and second goal for Rögle.
– We worked hard and I still thought we caught them quite a lot. We had a lot of chances, but we didn’t put them there and we offered easy goals, says Jonathan Dahlén to TV4.
Knife against the throat
After the loss in Ängelholm last time, Timrå had to win to have a chance to reach the quarter-finals. A hope that was quickly extinguished for the home team.
Despite Timrå winning the shots in the first two periods by 19-8, the really dangerous chances for the home team were missing. It was different for the away team. Because after a total of seven shots, the visitors had increased to 3–0.
– We conceded chances, but then we didn’t charge for the offensive either, says Anders Ante Karlsson to TV4.
Reduced after double pole hits
However, Rögle was about to make a real difference. Twice again, Timrå took out goalkeeper Jacob Johansson to play six against four. Rögle then had two golden opportunities to punctuate the match in an empty net. Instead, it was a pole hit each, first for Rögle’s Anton Bengtsson and then for Albin Sundsvik. Timrå was then able to reduce during both of its numerical superiority.
– We could just as well have taken this, but now it is as it is. We had a goal to go to the playoffs and we have done that, but then you always want more when you are there. That’s what annoys me, says Ante Karlsson.
Who Rögle meets in the quarter-finals depends on who wins the other round of 16. If Örebro wins it will be Växjö, if Luleå wins it will be Färjestad.
