Rogério Ceni is no longer Flamengo’s coach

O Flamengo announced at dawn today the departure of Rogério Ceni from the technical command of the professional team. The decision was announced at 2:46 am by the club’s official Twitter profile, after a meeting between the president Rodolfo Landim, the vice-president of soccer, Marcos Braz, and director Bruno Spindel. The statement also informs that the team will be led by coach Maurício Souza, from the youth categories, in tomorrow’s match against Chapecoense.

Ceni leaves the club at 12th place in the Brazilian Championship, with 12 points won in 8 games, and classified for the Round of 16 of Libertadores da América. In charge of Flamengo since November last year, the coach won the Brazilian Championship 2020, the Supercopa do Brasil 2021 and the Campeonato Carioca 2021.

“The Club de Regatas do Flamengo informs that it will not continue with Rogério Ceni at the head of the main team. The club thanks for the services rendered and wishes success in the next challenges”, announced Flamengo.

The red-black board had already been evaluating other names even before the resignation of Rogério Ceni, but there is no consensus around any of them. The most popular unemployed technician in the square, Renato Gaúcho pleases some, but he is far from unanimous. In 2019, the professional was close to a hit, but chose to stay in the Guild, what “burned your film” with some red and black.

The fact is that the club has not lived in a turbulent environment like this for some time. With few victories on the field, crises grow outside the field and expose existing divisions between managers and employees.

Irregular in Brasileirão and seeing the cup from afar, Flamengo enters the field tomorrow to face the Chapecoense, at 6:15 pm (Brasilia time), at Maracanã. Next Wednesday (14), the red-black team will face Defensa y Justicia (ARG), in a game valid for the round of 16 of the liberators.

Time fired analyst after criticism of Ceni

Yesterday (9), a leaked audio from market analyst Roberto Drummond dropped like a bomb in CT and resulted in his resignation. Drummond called Ceni a “bad person” and detonated the now ex-rubro-negro coach.

The content shook the club and revolted councilors, directors and other vice presidents, who were annoyed by such exposure.

In the middle of an election year, Fla is also going through complicated days in its internal politics and Landim tries to juggle not to lose the direction.
