Benfica announced this Friday that it reached an agreement with Roger Schmidt for the renewal of the coach’s contract, which extended his contract with the club until 2026.
O CM had found out that Rui Costa would be willing to double Roger Schmidt’s salary as a way to ensure his continuity at Benfica, but the values of the new contract are not yet known. The German coach earned a salary of slightly more than €1 million net per year at Luz, so he could earn around €2 million.
Roger Schmidt had already indicated that he was receptive to the idea of continuing with the eagles. The coach likes the club, has enormous empathy with the supporters (who see him as one of the greatest workers of sporting success), and on a personal level he is also delighted with the experience of living in Portugal.
