Roger Pontare (71) is one of Sweden’s most prominent artists. He has represented the country in Eurovision twice, and has definitely left his mark on Swedish music culture.
– It was barbaric
In late January, the colorful artist was taken by the police in Örnsköldsvik after a wobbly drive. It turned out that Pontare was driving with a blood alcohol level of 1.7. Now he admits to having driven under the influence of drugs.
– Of course it was very stupid, he adds Örnsköldsvik Allehanda.
Had some alcohol
In questioning, the 71-year-old explained to the police that there was a lot of alcohol the night before the incident. The next day he woke up in a hotel still feeling drugged – but he wanted to get home as soon as possible.
– Could be drunk in the middle of the day
A witness was driving behind Pontare and noticed the car swerving from right to left, and therefore decided to alert the police.
– I can imagine that I would also have been bothered if I drove behind someone who wobbled on the road, says the artist to ÖA.
Regrets
Pontare was unable to keep the car on the road and eventually drove into a pile of snow. That’s when the police arrived on the scene.
The 71-year-old says he regrets the incident and feels down.
About the alcoholism: – Pissed on me
When Aftonbladet asks the artist why he chose to get behind the wheel in a drug-impaired claim, he says:
– Yes, what can I say… When you are out touring in this industry, you want to go home.
No one is said to have been injured as a result of Pontare’s drunk driving.
