Berlin” title=”Roger Goodell: Believe the rumors about the NFL game in Berlin”/>
Every time the NFL plays a game in another country, the NFL drops a carrot or two regarding future games in that country.
For the fourth NFL game in Germany, commissioner Roger Goodell hinted at a possible future competition in the capital Berlin.
“I usually tell people, ‘Don’t believe the rumors,’” Goodell said at an event before Sunday’s game between the Giants and Panthers, via the Associated Press. “In this case, you might say, ‘Believe it.’ We are working on it, but it is not definitive.. We really think Berlin would be a great addition, so we’re looking at it very carefully. Our people have worked very hard on this. But I want to add that this doesn’t mean we won’t return to Frankfurt and Munich.”
When the NFL asked German cities for bids three years ago, Berlin didn’t come to the table. Munich has hosted one match, Frankfurt has had two and Munich wins this year’s competition.
The Munich game concludes the NFL’s annual international series for 2024. It included one game in Brazil, three in London and one in Germany. The NFL hopes to eventually play 16 international games.
This will undoubtedly become a standalone television package for which the NFL will earn many Deutsche Marks.
