Roger Federer’s former coach Ivan Ljubicic has revealed he felt the ‘pain’ in his last conversation before the maestro’s resignation.
His great career came to an end in September 2022 after struggling with injuries in recent years.
Ljubicic now told how the conversation with Federer went before his resignation: “It was a phone call, but it didn’t come out of the blue,” he said. “For a while he had doubts that he would even come back. But there was silence. I honestly didn’t know what to say. It’s hard… I felt his pain.”
The ex-pro added: “I felt that it wasn’t an easy call for him, so I tried to give him as much comfort as possible, you know, but I needed comfort too, so it was a Difficult, difficult moment. But again, you know, it didn’t come as a surprise. We all kind of felt like it was going to come sooner rather than later.”
