Roger Federer’s neon yellow Mercedes-AMG GT 63 SE Performance has been auctioned for 185,000 euros, auction house RM Sotheby’s announced on Instagram.
After Federer announced his intention to retire after the Laver Cup, Mercedes worked with him to create a special car to celebrate the Swiss’ remarkable career.
Federer, who was a 20-time Grand Slam champion, has decided to auction the car and donate all proceeds to charity. The lucky owner now has a Mercedes equipped with a 4-litre biturbo V8 and a 150 kW electric motor, for a total power of 831 horsepower and a torque of 1,082 Nm.
This power is sent to each wheel through a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Federer is enjoying a relaxed life in retirement.
Last week, Federer traveled to Tokyo for the Uniqlo event.
During the tournament, she spoke about the relaxed life she’s been leading since finishing her career as a professional tennis player. “As a tennis player, you’re always thinking about your next practice, your next match.
It never lets you go, your next journey, your next conditioning. I don’t think I realized how much this thought is always present and accompanies us, until we withdraw and realize that the stress disappears.
Doping, for example. We have to fill out anti-doping forms every day, one hour a day, wherever we are.”
Once all that goes away, you feel lighter, relieved to be able to live normally again after 25 years,” Federer explained. Federer, who underwent knee surgery in August 2021, was hoping to make a permanent comeback in 2022 .
Unfortunately, Federer’s knee didn’t progress far enough and the Swiss was forced to end his career.
