Roger Federer (42) seems small for once. While the Italian vocal powerhouse Andrea Bocelli (65) sings the last notes of “Nessun dorma” in Zurich’s Hallenstadion, the Swiss stands by, touched. At the final, Federer wipes a tear from his face.
The moment was captured by 20 Minutes news scout Fernanda Mira. “No wonder Federer was so touched by the end, I had chicken skin even though I was sitting many meters away in the audience,” says the 32-year-old from Bülach ZH. Her parents had long raved to her about the opera legend’s live performance, about it being the “best concert of her life,” and now she can understand their enthusiasm. “Now I’m a Bocelli fan too.” But why did the singer bring Federer on stage in the first place?
“The concert was actually almost over,” says Fernanda Mira. Bocelli had already given the encore when someone told him something through the button in his ear. “‘Apparently we have a living legend in the audience tonight,’ said Bocelli. Then Federer came on stage, everyone clapped, Bocelli started singing again and Federer just stood there.” At the end the two legends hug. Many people on social media are excited. The comments are “Wow”, “incredible” or “magical”. Roger Federer is likely to describe the experience in a similar way.
