the essentials in brief

  • Roger Federer’s boathouse in Rapperswil-Jona is delayed.
  • A private individual and an association have lodged objections to the project.
  • The association advocates for riverside paths and wants to prevent private construction near the lake.

Roger Federer actually wanted to complete the last part of his property in Kempraten in Rapperswil Jona SG this winter. The low water level in the cold season would be optimal for building a boathouse with a jetty and a shallow water zone. But it seems unlikely that the project can be carried out. Because two objections are still pending.

According to the “Linth-Zeitung”, one of the objections comes from a private person. The second comes from the “Rives Publiques” association, as the “Zürichsee-Zeitung” reports. And whether he has the right to object is questioned.

The Federer kids will let off steam here in the future. The tennis star bought the then empty property four years ago for 50 million francs. – Well

“Rives Publique” advocates for riverside paths and private buildings near the lake and has been fighting for them in Rapperswil-Jona for four years. President Victor von Wartburg told the “Zürichsee-Zeitung” that he was confident that he had the right to object.

Non-profit nature and heritage protection organizations that have been active throughout Switzerland and have been active throughout Switzerland for over ten years are entitled to object. The Federal Office for the Environment lists these requirements for the right of association to lodge a complaint. And “Rives Publique” should fulfill them.

In 2003, the Federal Council approved a riverside path between Feldbach and Kempraten, which is included in the St.Gallen structure plan. However, Rapperswil-Jona has not implemented it to this day.

Mayor Martin Stöckling justified the hesitation by saying that there was neither a need nor a desire for it. The population is satisfied with the existing access to the lake.

Roger Federer’s boathouse would set a precedent

And it is precisely thanks to this lack of implementation that “Rives Publique” sees itself entitled to object. The association demands that no buildings that affect the bank be approved until the riverside path has been implemented. And that also means Federer’s boathouse.

Von Wartburg argues that the approval would create a precedent. “Several other lake owners should be given the same rights as the Federers and be able to build on the shore.” However, this would violate federal, cantonal and municipal laws.

Should private buildings be banned near the lake in favor of riverside paths?

It seems that Roger Federer will have to wait even longer to complete his property. This should sound familiar to the tennis legend: there were repeated objections to his building projects in Rapperswil-Jona.
