Roger Federer’s All-Time Records: Which Ones Will Stand Forever?

Even on grass, the air for Federer’s records is getting thinner and thinner.

The list of Roger Federer’s all-time records is getting smaller and smaller. Rafael Nadal and especially Novak Djokovic have stolen a few from him since retiring. We take a look at some of the records that he still has and some of which will probably last forever.

Longest number 1

This record can hardly be taken away from Federer. All the more because players like Carlos Alcaraz or Daniil Medvedev always have a say about the number 1. From February 2, 2004 to August 17, 2008, Federer greeted non-stop from the top in tennis. That corresponds to 237 weeks. Djokovic has only managed 122 weeks in a row so far. Due to various injuries, Nadal has never been able to do a longer series than number 1.

Most Grand Slam matches won

Nadal and Djokovic have surpassed the Swiss in the number of titles, but not in the number of Grand Slam games won. Here the air for Federer is getting thinner and thinner. His lead has shrunk to a good 20 games. So Djokovic has a good chance of breaking this record. If he continues to be so dominant, 3 to 4 tournaments could be enough.

Most hard court titles

Federer’s record shakes almost even more. Federer only has four more hard court successes compared to Djokovic. If the Serb continues his run in the USA in the fall, the record could, in extreme cases, already fall this year. It is more likely that Djokovic will replace him at the top of this ranking by 2024 at the latest.

Most finals won in a row

Federer, on the other hand, is likely to remain this record forever. Between 2003 and 2005 Federer was in 24 finals and won every time. Only David Nalbandian was able to stop the impressive series at the ATP World Tour Finals at the end of 2005. In these statistics, Djokovic has won 10 finals in a row, Nadal 14.

Even if Djokovic should win several more Wimbledon titles, he will probably never match Federer’s record. Because the Swiss has won an incredible 19 titles on his favorite surface, 8 of them in Wimbledon. So to date, Federer has a lead over Djokovic, who is more than twice as big. Other players like Pete Sampras, Stan Smith or Jimmy Connors are also still facing Djokovic in front of the sun.

The longest winning streak on grass and hard court

When it comes to consistency, Federer still leads some rankings to this day. So also those for the longest winning streaks on grass (65) and hard court (56). It took him five years to complete the feat on grass. Only then did he lose in one of the most epic finals in tennis history in the Wimbledon final to Rafael Nadal.

He has 324 top positions, followed by Nadal and Djokovic.
