Roger Federer thinks his knees are fine but …

There is huge anticipation for the return of Roger Federer. During a conversation on the Tennis Channel, six-time Grand Slam champion Lindsay Davenport discussed the chances of the 20-time Grand Slam champion.

According to the American, the 39-year-old right-wing did not have high expectations for this week.

Davenport talks about Roger Federer

“I think reading Roger Federer’s comments at his press conference, his expectations are quite low and when you are 40 years old and you come back from knee surgery last year, you really don’t know what to expect,” said Lindsay Davenport.

“He thinks his knees are fine, but until you’re out there and you play games and you have to change direction and also play some points with a little bit of stress and some nerve, you just don’t know how your body is going to respond.

But I love his perspective, which was ‘I just want to be 100% for Wimbledon’ so whatever match I get until then is really an advantage. “Lindsay Davenport is optimistic about Federer’s chances on the faster courts in Dubai, provided the Helvetian stays healthy and has a decent amount of match practice this week.

“Those courts (in Dubai) are ultra-fast, so you can finish the points maybe a little bit faster,” Davenport said. “If he can get a couple of games under his belt this week, leave feeling good, feeling healthy, with no knee problems, I think more realistic (than Doha) is maybe looking towards Dubai to make an outstanding participation.”

“I can play two and a half hours for five days straight,” Federer said, counting the positives on the health front. However, he added that feeling good about yourself physically is not necessarily a transmission of confidence before games.

“The games are different … when the nerves also play a role,” said the champion. Federer has also listed the Tokyo Olympics in June and the US Open as his other priority events on this calendar.
