Roger Federer announced this Sunday that he will not continue in the Grand Slam played in France, where he had to face Berrettini on Monday for the round of 16. Both the tennis player and his technical and medical staff decided not to demand the physique of the Swiss, who is recovering from a double operation on his right knee since last year. “After talking to my team, I decided that it was best to withdraw from the Roland Garros tournament. After two knee surgeries and more than a year of rehabilitation, it is important that I listen to my body and not go too fast with the return to competition. I am delighted to have won three games, there is no better feeling than to be back on the slopes “said the Swiss who will soon be 40 years old.
The Swiss had to face the Italian Berrettini for the round of 16 of the French Grand Slam. Federer had arrived at this stage after defeating Koepfer in four sets last Saturday, in a match that lasted more than three and a half hours. After the match, the world number 8 in the ATP ranking had already shown some doubts about his continuity in the tournament.
