The number eight in the world Roger Federer returned to the circuit with a defeat atATP 250 of Geneva, in its first official match since 11 March.
The Swiss, who played his first match on clay from Roland Garros in 2019, was defeated in the second round, after the bye of the debut, by Pablo Andujar for 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 after 1 hour and 50 minutes of play.
Federer was more agile in movement than Qatar, but was unable to curb his high number of unforced errors.
After losing the first set, the 39-year-old Swiss showed signs of improvement after winning the second set, but in the third set he threw it all away once again: he led 4-2 but allowed his opponent to recover and won the last four games of the match and won the match 6-4.
Federer will now head to Paris to better prepare for Roland Garros.
