Roger Federer reflects on his early years on the Tour

Former world number one Roger Federer will turn 40 in August 2021. Although the Swiss master has achieved so much in his tennis career, he is not ready to hang up his boots right now.

He took quite a long hiatus but returned to the sport recently at the 2021 ATP Geneva Open. In a recent interview, Roger Federer revealed that he knew he was a talented player from the start.

He admitted that he was a great athlete from day one and was much stronger mentally when he was young. “He was talented and he was good, but maybe he was a little too confident at first,” Federer said in the interview.

Although Roger mentioned that he was good, he also stressed that he was overconfident when he started his career. Gradually he realized and gained control over his overconfidence.

Federer clearly tried to emphasize that being young and fresh surely gives any player an advantage. However, he is enjoying his time on the tour even at the age of 39 and is aiming for the 2021 Wimbledon Championships right now.

Federer will play a Grand Slam almost after 17 months, when he will step on the pitch at the 2021 French Open. Even if he is not playing to win the title, he will surely try to gain confidence there.

Federer faces a difficult draw at Roland Garros. In the second round, he will face Marin Cilic. In the fourth round, he will face Auger Felix-Aliassime or Matteo Berrettini. The draw gets much more laborious as he could face world number one Novak Djokovic in the quarters.

If he somehow manages to win against the Serbian legend, he will draw against Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals. There is also a silver lining to this draw as it is also a golden opportunity for Roger Federer to gain the experience of playing against the best players in Paris.

Despite all the odds, fans are still backing him and believe he can make an impressive comeback. Can Federer succeed at the 2021 French Open?
