Roger Federer reacts to Iga Swiatek’s incredible shot on goal

It seems Roger Federer was very impressed with Iga Swiatek’s masterclass at the United Cup. On Sunday, Swiatek partnered Hubert Hurkacz for a mixed doubles match at the United Cup. In the first set of their 6-3 6-4 win over Zhibek Kulumbayeva and Grigoriy Lomakin, Swiatek shot at the net with an incredible shot.

After the match, Swiatek shared a video of his shot and asked Federer, “Do you agree?” Federer noticed the video and replied, “That was crazy (exploding head emoji).”

Swiatek impressed Federer and Hurkacz

Swiatek and Hurkacz, the two best Polish tennis stars, played their first match as a couple.

After the match ended, Hurkacz took a moment to reflect on what Swiatek accomplished. “Iga’s shooting behind the net was crazy. He plays really fantastic, hits the ball really hard and carries me throughout the game, so it was very good.

The first day of January and she already has the shot of the year, so it’s a good start,” Hurkacz said of Swiatek’s great shot. Meanwhile, Swiatek – who usually focuses on singles and doesn’t play doubles very often – said that he really enjoyed his first experience with Hurkacz in mixed doubles.

“It was amazing. It was the first time I had the opportunity to play with Hubi. When it serves, it’s the best feeling ever. I don’t have to do anything on volleys, so I like it!

It gives a lot of positive energy and I’m the one who usually needs it,” Swiatek said of mixed doubles with Hurkacz. In the past, Swiatek has played mixed doubles four times, each time with the same partner, Lukasz Kubot.

Swiatek has partnered with Kubot three times at the Australian Open: they reached the quarterfinals in 2020 while exiting the tournament in the round of 16 in 2019 and 2021. Also, at the Tokyo Olympics, Swiatek played with Kubot in mixed doubles: they were beaten in the quarterfinals. Swiatek and Hurkacz will likely try mixed doubles at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
