Roger Federer on the release of the ROGER Pro tennis shoe

Shortly before making his professional comeback after a 13-month hiatus (and with a win over Dan Evans on top of that), Roger Federer and On presented the signature THE ROGER Pro shoe.

Billed as the Swiss company’s first performance tennis option, THE ROGER Pro is the first on-court shoe designed by Federer since leaving NIKE, Inc. in 2018. Throughout his 24-year partnership with the North American sportswear giant, the now 39 years old, he had a handful of tennis shoes inspired by both the Nike Air Max 95 and the Air Jordan 3. His new proposal with On ne Not reinventing the look of shoes made for grass (or clay), but it approaches energy return, shock absorption and durability in a new way.

As with its near-ubiquitous big-city running sneakers, the Swiss maker’s latest model began with a conscious effort to explore the sensations. Federer’s feet have been scanned with 3D technology to provide a detailed overview of their anatomy. Tennis’s heavy reliance on lateral movement led the On Lab team to produce a high density, high performance foam for the midsole, while pairing it with tooling with reliable stability and traction. On’s proven Speedboard® carbon fiber plate provides high performance shock absorption and energy return. Elsewhere, the sparse-branded technical mesh upper provides breathability and abrasion resistance for long, high-intensity sets.
