Roger Federer is still “a bit worried about other sports” due to his knee injury

“I’m still a little scared for other sports. My knees are so-so. We’ll have to wait a few more months and see how it develops,” Federer said at a sponsor event in Tokyo.

But the 20-time Grand Slam champion also knows how to use his time differently and finds himself doing typical parenting duties. This is how the Swiss spends his free time planning family holidays.

And after the end of the career, these holidays look very different from the active period. “Vacations were always meant to be relaxing because my touring life was so stressful. Now vacations can be more adventurous,” she said, looking forward to the next few days of family vacation.

The former tennis star initially denied whether a coaching job would be an option for him in the near future: “With my four kids going to school and everything going on, I don’t see myself working as a coach.” But he didn’t want to rule it out entirely. “But if a Swiss junior player comes along and needs support or advice, I’m happy to do it,” Federer added.

Federer: End of career associated with great relief

When asked about retiring from the tennis circus, Federer mostly felt a release. “The moment you stop, you realize how much stress is gone.”

He didn’t notice it during his career, but with some distance from the sport, he realized how much space these thoughts had taken up. “When you’re a tennis player, you always think about your next training session, your next away trip, your next match. These thoughts are always with you,” said the Swiss.

He was especially present during the constant doping controls, where athletes have to be available for one hour a day. “And when it’s all over, you suddenly feel much lighter, like you’re relieved that after 25 years you can finally lead a normal life again,” Federer summed up at the end of the sponsoring event.
