Roger Federer: I want to stay in touch with the sport that has given me everything

On Tuesday, Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer said in an interview that he wanted to stay in touch “with the sport that has given me everything” after announcing his imminent retirement last week.

Federer, a 20-time Grand Slam champion and one of the best players of all time, caused a stir when he announced he was retiring from this week’s Laver Cup.

And the tennis star admitted on social media last Thursday that his battles with a knee problem forced him to end a storied career that earned him a reputation as one of the most stylish players ever.

Federer admitted in an interview that he again shed “a tear or two when he announced his retirement last week”, but told RTS he was “happy to take this step”.

In response to a question about his future plans, he continued: “I don’t know exactly what my future will be, but I don’t want to completely distance myself from the sport that has given me everything.”
