Roger Federer enjoyed playing

Patrick McEnroe believes Roger Federer’s love of tennis has played a big part in the Swiss man enjoying a very long and successful career. Federer, who turned 41 in August, retired from professional tennis following September’s Laver Cup.

After two knee surgeries in 2020, Federer made a return to tennis the following year. Unfortunately, Federer only played five tournaments before undergoing a third knee surgery and unable to return.

At the end of September, Federer only returned for a doubles game. Federer holds the record for the oldest number 1 in tennis history – he was 36 years and 10 months old when he last reached the top spot.

“A lot of players, I keep telling people that, some players love to win, Jimmy Connors, Pete Sampras. Roger Federer obviously loves to win, that made him one of the best of all time, but he just loves it, I think I’ve never met someone who just loves to go out there and just bang the ball around, such a great one players like him”, McEnroe said on the Holding Court with Patrick McEnroe Podcast, loudly Sportskeeda.

Federer has taken tennis to a new level

Although Federer didn’t manage to end his career with the record for most Grand Slam titles of all time, many still believe that no player had a bigger impact on the game than the Swiss.

Recently, Nick Kyrgios explained what Federer has done for tennis. “I think when all is said and done Novak will be the GOAT but I think without Federer there would be no Nadal, no Djokovic, he brought so many fans to tennis.

Nadal and Djokovic let you get into the game a little bit more with your groundstrokes and stuff, but Federer can just make you feel like pure shit makes the court look so small.

“If it’s purely tennis related I would say Novak but if it’s more than an athlete I would say Federer” said Kyrgios on The JBK Show.
