Tennis star Roger Federer donates the equivalent of around 450,000 euros for Ukrainian children. He and his family were “horrified” by the pictures from Ukraine, which is why he wants to support the War Child Holland organization with $500,000 through his foundation, Federer said on Twitter on Friday. The money is intended to ensure that Ukrainian children can continue to go to school.
“Approximately six million Ukrainian children are currently not in school,” wrote Federer, who himself has two sets of twins, two girls and two boys, with his wife Miroslava. It is crucial to give them access to education.
“My family and I are appalled by the images from Ukraine and heartbroken by the innocent people who have been so terribly affected. We are for peace,” continued the Swiss tennis legend. He wanted to help the children to cope with this “extremely traumatic experience”. The tweet was mistaken for yellow and blue hearts and a dove of peace.
The 40-year-old founded the Roger Federer Foundation in 2003 to help disadvantaged children.
