The eight-time English Premier League champion, who announced his retirement last September, will visit the stadium where some of his greatest victories took place, where he will be honored before the start of the match.
All England Club chief executive Sally Bolton said Monday: “I am delighted to say that Roger will be with us tomorrow and we will have a special celebratory moment on Center Court before kick-off, to honor him as the man with the most men’s singles titles here at Wimbledon.”
“We’ll just have a moment to celebrate his accomplishments and say thank you for all the memories,” she added.
Federer, 41, has moved away from tennis since an emotional farewell at the Laver Cup in London, but he was similarly honored on grass courts during the German Halle tournament last month.
Bolton revealed that American Serena Williams (41 years), who withdrew a few weeks ago from the US Open, was also invited to Wimbledon, but she was unable to travel.
“We’ve invited Serena as well this year, but as you know she’s pregnant, so it’s understandable she can’t travel,” Bolton said.
“Of course we wish her a lot of luck for the remainder of her pregnancy and hope to see her next year,” she added.
And the Serbian superstar, Novak Djokovic, appears to be the favorite to equal Federer’s record at Wimbledon and achieve his record 24th Grand Slam title.
