The Indian Wells tournament has ended and news is coming from the ATP and WTA rankings. The Top Ten sees, after years and a near-historic situation, the release of tennis legend and twenty-time Grand Slam winner Roger Federer.
In the top ten positions Rublev loses points and therefore suffers the overtaking of Rafael Nadal in fifth position while at the expense of Roger’s departure, Casper Ruud and Hubert Hurkacz gain positions, ninth and tenth respectively in the world.
Schwartzman did well too, while Indian Wells winner Cameron Norrie also edged out Jannik Sinner (also in the Race) and gained 11 positions to become world number 15. The tennis player from South Tyrol loses two positions in the rankings and is number 16 in the world.
Great jump also for Dimitrov who gains 7 positions while Garel Monfils, Roberto Bautista Agut and our Lorenzo Sonego are down. Indian Wells finalist Basilashvili wins nine spots and is now number 27 in the world. Taylor Fritz is also back in the Top 30.
Goffin, Krajinovic and Carlos Alcaraz are down with the young Spaniard losing four places in the standings. The injured Raonic collapses as Americans Paul and McDonald continue to do well. The absent Coric and Wawrinka hurt too.
Among Italians Gianluca Mager gains six positions while young Lorenzo Musetti loses seven, closely followed by the ever-growing Jenson Brooksby, now the new world number 70. Nakashima and Stefano Travaglia also did well, gaining 8 positions in the standings.
Napoli 2 winner Tallon Griekspoor gains 29 positions and enters the Top 100 squarely, trailing Andreas Seppi instead of losing five positions.
Kyrgios pays tribute to Federer
There have been very few players in men’s tennis who have managed to inspire people as much as Roger Federer.
The way the Swiss master performs on and off the pitch is second to none. He recently got some compliments from Nick Kyrgios. The 26-year-old added: “The goat, I was very intimidated the first time I saw him and after that he always continued to have the aura that no other player has.
He is a great boy, nice and with a great sense of humor ”. Kyrgios, who was last seen representing Team World at the Laver Cup, has not competed in any events since. Federer, on the other hand, ended his season after announcing that he needs to undergo another knee surgery. We look forward to seeing him back on the tennis courts and competing for the highest honors in the game once again.
