Roger Federer, sixth seed at Wimbledon, reached the third round of the English tournament on grass on Thursday by defeating Frenchman Richard Gasquet 7-6 (7/1), 6-1, 6-4.
The two faced each other for an hour and 51 minutes on the center court of the All England Lawn Club, finally uncovered thanks to the end of the rain that had fallen on London in recent days.
Federer, 39, seeking his ninth Wimbledon title but still suffering after undergoing two knee surgeries last year, was more convincing than in his first match on Tuesday against fellow Frenchman Adrian Mannarino.
The Swiss is going for his 21st Grand Slam title, where he is tied with Rafael Nadal, who is not in this tournament.
