Roelof has been married three times in his life. But his first marriage collapses. “I felt remorse after I left my first wife. You don’t make a choice like that where you hurt someone else on a whim,” he says.
Roelof continues to live nearby for his son, who is then 6 years old. “So I moved into a run-down old people’s home around the corner. It had a room with a north-facing window: an uninviting dark cave where I slept on a camp bed.”
He has always been happy with his second wife. Unfortunately, the lively Marjon dies from the effects of colon cancer. “After her death I slept next to her coffin on the couch. I couldn’t go to my own bed. I couldn’t leave her alone.”
Roelof has now been together with his third wife, who is also called Marjon, for over twelve years. The two namesakes were friends. After the death of his second wife, her friend Marjon comes to eat with him. “We sat across from each other at the table, took each other’s hand and suddenly the spark jumped. It happened completely unexpectedly, because before then we were just friends and there was nothing between us.”
The two are very happy. “Together we can really enjoy our grandsons. We now have four: two from my son and two from Marjon’s daughter.”
Recently, Roelof’s TV marriage to Eva Jinek came into question. She is leaving from RTL to AvroTros. It has not been announced whether he will attend. You can see more about Eva’s departure in the video below.
