In the bonus episode to podkasten Mímir & Marsdalthey speak out about the much talked about sunglasses theft at Gardermoen.

The name of the episode, “Talking about Moxit”, explains what the content of the 46-minute long episode is about.

In the episode that was released on Wednesday, former Rødt leader Bjørnar Moxnes was examined, but at the same time recognized for the work he has done as Rødt leader for eleven years.

– In no way do I want to downplay the lack of character, or the broken character, that came to light with sunglass street. But it felt necessary to remind that this is the most innovative party leader on the socialist left in the last half century, says Marsdal to VG about the podcast episode.

Mímir Kristjánsson has not wanted to elaborate on any of the content of the podcast to VG.

– Difficult to come back

In response to the opening question from podcast partner Magnus Marsdal, leader of the think tank ManifestManifestForeningen Manifest Analyse, also called Manifest Tankesmie, a Norwegian, left-wing think tank that was started in 2009, Mímir Kristjánsson does not think that Moxne’s resignation as party leader was the only alternative:

– But it is clear that it would be very difficult to come back. It would take a long time, replies the Rødt profile.

Kristjánsson himself believes that it is possible to rise from all political scandals, and mentions several examples.

– But that was probably not what he was interested in, states Rødt-Mímir.

VG has tried to get in touch with Bjørnar Moxnes for a comment, without success.

The theft worse than the lying

Kristjánsson then points a finger at the media. He believes that it was the crime of Moxnes that was the worst, and not the lies and explanations afterwards.

– If you have done something wrong, then the problem is that you have done something wrong. Not that you handled it wrong.

– Do you think Moxnes has been a wonderful guy, and that it bothers him here, asks Marsdal.

– Yes, I would say that. But in what other way would he have been then? He stole, and it’s serious.

The Rødt profile itself understands that the former Rødt leader struggled to handle the matter.

– He has panicked at Gardermoen, there is no doubt about that. I’m not sure about that.

Thought it was a joke

Even the Rødt profile was in beautiful surroundings in Lofoten, when the news of the Moxnes theft broke burst in Romerikes Blad.

– I received a message from him that there was going to be an embarrassing case, but that was before he started telling the whole truth about it. Then he explained it as a “half-theft”, he had received summonses and the like, I received information about that, but it was a bit like that without the knowledge and will.

At first Kristjánsson thought the whole thing was a “køddesak”. He nevertheless chose to call the former Rødt leader, to inquire about the situation.

– Then it came out that same evening, when he published the Facebook post, that he took off the note before putting them in the bag, then I realized “damn it, this is wrong”.

Rules out that he is a professional shoplifter

– Why of all days should he rap the sunglasses, if he absolutely has to wear them, wonders Marsdal, and believes many more people than he are wondering exactly that question.

– I have nothing to do with it. But as I know Bjørnar, I don’t think he quite knows it himself, so it’s a bit difficult to judge.

The Stavanger man, on the other hand, does not believe anything in particular in one theory that several in the population have launched:

– Several different theories are being launched. One of them is that he is a kind of professional shoplifter, but if you are, then you don’t steal from the most monitored place in Norway. So I think we can rule that out right away.

– It was an inexplicable and blind welding mistake, which does not seem characteristic, and it is difficult to explain it. That’s why it’s so damn inexplicable when people label it as “that’s how he is”, says Kristjánsson.

PROFESSIONAL OR AMATEUR?: Mímir Kristjánsson does not think his party colleague is a professional shoplifter, as some have suggested on social media. Photo: Police / NTB

Gives Moxnes brag

Both Kristjánsson and Marsdal boast of what Moxnes has achieved with Rødt, and the former believes that he has built a “labourist party”, which has gained broad appeal across the country.

– Is the construction as solid as you imagine? asks Marsdal’s podcast partner.

– No, maybe it isn’t. But it is probably more internal than external unrest, so to speak. All the people who have worked in Rødt in recent years have worked at Team Bjørnar. So internally in Rødt there is probably much more unrest than is being expressed, I think so.

– You notice it a little in Marie as well, who I certainly hope will continue as leader, so this is not her dream situation to take over Rødt, says Kristjánsson.

NEW CHIEF: Marie Sneve Martinussen will be the new Rødt manager. – No one in Rødt has asked me to be a carer or a hobby psychologist – they have asked me to be party leader, she herself told VG about her new role in the party. Photo: Javad Parsa / NTB

– What is the core to build on for Rødt and the left side?

– I guess the main rule is not to steal and not to lie, says Mímir and laughs.
