At the turn of the year, 13,848 people were listed in Rødt’s membership register. This is a decrease of 731 from the previous year – and the first time since 2008 that the party has shrunk, writes The class struggle.
Rødt has been through a turbulent year with internal disputes over arms support to Ukraine and the theft of the sunglasses of the then party leader Bjørnar Moxnes. Party secretary Reidar Strisland says there were some who signed up when the party discussed weapons for Ukraine.
– I still think it was important that we had that debate. Then we have worked a bit against the current with a record-breaking Conservative Party, says Strisland.
– As far as the case with Bjørnar is concerned, we have not registered any negative feedback, and we also have a slight growth in the number of members from the summer and beyond the autumn, says the party secretary.
He says the goal is for the party, which was founded in 2007, to grow in 2024.
