Rodrigo Arias describes as “untimely” decision to eliminate mandatory vaccination

(CRHoy.com) -The president of the Legislative Assembly, Rodrigo Arias-Sanchezdescribed this Wednesday as “untimely” the decision of the government of Rodrigo Chaves to eliminate the mandatory nature of the vaccine against COVID-19.

“It seems to me that this decision made by the Government of the Republic to announce that it was not necessary, and that it was left almost to freedom of people to get vaccinated or not, and that it was no longer mandatory, it seems to me that it is totally inopportune at this time for Costa Rica, for our medical situation, ”said the deputy of the National Liberation Party (PLN) at a press conference.

Arias Sánchez asked the Government reconsider measure and that the necessary time be given to “see if this growth that is taking place (cases of COVID-19) is really going to be consolidated or is going to start to decline, as other countries have done.”

“I think it’s the worst moment to make this decision,” said the legislator.

Arias Sánchez recalled that the country is starting a new wave of infectionsexperts have warned.

“The people who are doing studies, the knowledgeable people, consider that we could be in a short time with a series of daily cases that really worry us, again, that we arrive up to 5 thousand. All of that is what leads me to give my opinion,” she added.

Chaves announced the decision to eliminate the compulsory nature of the vaccine the previous Sunday when he took office presidential commandby means of a decree that was not published until today in the official newspaper La Gaceta.

Lawyers have questioned the measure because they maintain that the decision requires the prior agreement of the National Commission of Vaccination and Epidemiologyin conjunction with the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) and the Ministry of Health.

In the decree published today, after numerous questions, the Government urges public institutions and the private sector not to apply dismissal sanctions to those who do not have the complete vaccination scheme against Covid-19.
