While awaiting execution in prison in California, Rodney James Alcala died in hospital after a long illness.
Known as one of the most ferocious serial killers in American history, the 77-year-old was nicknamed “Dating Game Killer” because he dated boys and girls to kill boys and girls. Its victims, since the 1970s, have been at least 130.
The death penalty sentenced in 2010, however, refers only to five episodes carried out in California between 1977 and 1979, including that of a 12-year-old. In 2013, another sentence handed him 25 years in prison for admitting he was guilty of two murders in New York.
Alcala, who had been ill for some time, was hospitalized in the San Joaquin Valley hospital.
