Rodez. Covid-19: Rotary has provided the hospital with a valuable screening tool

the essential
Thanks to its mobilization, the service club has enabled the hospital to acquire a technological tool allowing faster screening.

It is a major support in the fight against the spread of the coronavirus that the Rotary Club brought to the Jacques-Puel hospital this summer. It has indeed enabled the infectious disease laboratory to acquire a new molecular biology machine.

20 viruses or bacteria detected in one hour

“This device specializes in syndromic diagnosis, which consists of looking for, in the same biological sample, a set of infectious agents responsible for a given syndrome (respiratory, meningeal, etc.). In particular in critical situations suspected of COVID, or meningitis, this multiplex PCR technique can simultaneously search for more than 20 viruses or bacteria in just 1 hour “explains to Jacques-Puel hospital, which warmly thanked the donors who came to visit them these days.

It must be said that thanks to its mobilization, the Rotary Club of Rodez, which had the support of Rotary Rodez-Espalion and its “old” partner from Gloucester in England, was also able to obtain support from its world foundation. “And we were thus able to cover the 31,200 euros necessary for the purchase of this device” underlines Serge Clamagirand, the current president of the Service Club.

It was under the leadership of Alain Viala, then president at the start of 2020, that all this was put in place. “One of our members, Pierre Angles, knows Dr Simon Ray, infectious disease specialist at the hospital well. As soon as the health crisis began, we went to see him and asked how we could help the hospital. was very fast “ says Serge Clamagirand. “ The acquisition of a molecular biology platform with a syndromic approach is a major added value for the Rodez hospital and for the region “ underline the hospital managers, who see it there too “a new illustration of the city-hospital link and the strength of unity in the fight against this pandemic”. Something to make the Rodez service club proud, which is an important partner of the hospital structure

Each year, the Rotary-Cub of Rodez sets itself new missions. This year, the members of the service club have several goals.

Support first of all for CIDFF. “The number of women victims of domestic violence is on the rise, Rodez is not spared. We are studying the possibility of helping CIDFF effectively” explains Serge Clamagirand.

Likewise, significant support has been committed to support medical research, via the League against cancer, particularly with regard to children and adolescents who are victims of it.

A mission is also launched with the opticians, in particular Dubord, to collect glasses which, once restored, will be able to help people in countries in great difficulty. “It’s a very small contribution compared to the needs” tempers Serge Clamagirand.

The fact remains that these aids are very precious!
